Rodda
& Sons West has its roots in a Seattle business begun by Stewart
Rodda in 1937. Stewart had studied painting at the Philadelphia
Fine Arts Academy, but with 4 sons and a daughter to provide
for, he ended up building models for Boeing and moonlighting
as a landscaper. Gradually there developed enough demand for
his work that landscaping became his main occupation.
Stewart
passed on to his children an enterprising and innovative spirit.
You may have seen some of the very convincing fiberglass rocks
he developed in the Tacoma Mall. He also designed and constructed
the interior of the Woodland Park Zoo's Nocturnal House.
In
his eighties he was still providing for needy families from
the bounty of his beautiful vegetable gardens. In his nineties
he was still growing stock for Furney's Nurseries. Meanwhile
2 of his sons, Barry & Foster, became partners in the landscape
business Stewart had started, calling it Rodda & Sons Landscaping.
A
few years later, Foster was invited to leave Seattle for the
North Beach area where Sharon's parents were expanding the
Sandpiper Beach Resort from 5 sad cabins to one of The Best
Places on the Washington coast. (It has long since been sold.)
As Foster gradually took on other landscaping projects Rodda
& Sons West became a going concern.
Barry
& his wife Jan have continued to be very successful with Rodda
& Sons in the Seattle area. One of Jan's appealing demonstration
gardens created for the Northwest
Flower & Garden Show was featured in Sunset Magazine.
They are well known for the excellence of their designs and
craftsmanship.
Foster
and his trusty crews have now been serving the Grays Harbor
community for over 25 years. We look forward to helping you
create a landscape at your house that says, "Welcome home!"
